Embellisher and MakerScroll Down
I am a London based costume maker specialising in surface embellishment and womenswear.
Over the years of studying both fashion and costume, I have developed a strong interest in surface embellishment, particularly beading and hand embroidery. I enjoy making pieces that allow me to look at historical costume for modern performance and occasion wear.I am keen to further develop my skills as a maker for live performance, screen and bridal wear.
1950s Illusion Dress
For this project I wanted to explore 1950s womenswear along with surface embellishment. Creating this illusion dress and petticoat allowed me to explore period techniques, as well as skills that could be transferred into bridal wear and lingerie.
For this project I explored the trends of Teddy Boys, from the 1950s through to the 1970s to see how they used fashion to show their power as individuals, and as a group. My coat for this project combines traditional 1950s Teddy Boys features, including pocket placements, and coat length, along with features popular during the 1970s, especially the velvet collar and check print used.
